Description

Experience the best of Kenya safari in a way few ever do—through a luxurious, handpicked itinerary that leads you deep into the country’s most contrasting and captivating landscapes. This exclusive 6-day journey takes you from the wild beauty of Samburu to the mist-covered forests of the Aberdares, and finally to the serene lakeside of Naivasha, combining exceptional wildlife encounters with elegant accommodations and unforgettable moments in nature.

Tailored for the discerning traveler who values privacy, comfort, and authenticity, this is not a typical tourist trail. Instead, it reveals the hidden gems and unique ecosystems that make up the true best of Kenya safari experience.

Samburu: Rugged Beauty and Rare Wildlife

Your adventure begins in northern Kenya’s remote wilderness at Samburu National Reserve, a land of dry riverbeds, volcanic outcrops, and thorny acacia scrub that gives the reserve its raw, dramatic beauty. This region is home to wildlife found nowhere else in Kenya, including the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, and the long-necked gerenuk, earning it the name “Samburu Special Five.”

Here, you’ll stay at the elegant Samburu Sopa Lodge, where luxury blends harmoniously with nature. Perched on raised ground with sweeping views across the reserve, the lodge offers spacious, thatched-roof suites, refreshing swimming pools, and refined dining options with panoramic wilderness views. As you sip your welcome drink on arrival, the sounds of the bush begin to weave their magic. Over the next two days, you’ll embark on a series of expertly guided game drives—at sunrise, in the golden afternoon light, and under the starlit skies.

Adding further depth to this segment of your safari, you’ll venture across the Ewaso Nyiro River to the adjoining Buffalo Springs National Reserve. This lesser-known gem shares wildlife with Samburu but offers a distinct contrast in terrain—lush springs, crystal-clear pools, and open savannahs punctuated by doum palms. The reserve is named after the natural springs that bubble up in its heart, attracting animals from all directions and making it a magnet for predators and prey alike. With fewer visitors than its better-known neighbors, Buffalo Springs provides a serene and intimate game viewing experience—where you might find elephants bathing in the springs, lion prides lounging under acacias, or herds of oryx grazing in the morning light.

Together, Samburu and Buffalo Springs create a richly diverse northern safari experience—where rugged landscapes meet rare wildlife, and every game drive reveals something unexpected. With the region’s quiet exclusivity and dramatic beauty, this portion of your best of Kenya safari captures the wild heart of Kenya in a way few places can.

Aberdare: Forested Highlands

From Samburu’s arid charm, the journey ascends into the lush green heart of Kenya: the Aberdare National Park. This mountain paradise is home to dense bamboo forests, alpine moorlands, and hidden waterfalls, offering an entirely different atmosphere and a rich diversity of wildlife. Elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and even elusive black rhinos roam freely through the misty highlands.

Here you’ll stay at the renowned Ark Lodge, a one-of-a-kind eco-lodge modeled after Noah’s Ark, set above a floodlit waterhole and salt lick. The lodge’s large viewing decks and room balconies allow you to spot wildlife directly from your bed, making every evening a quiet spectacle of nature.

Take a guided walk to the breathtaking Karuru Waterfalls, discover rare flora, or simply relax and enjoy a glass of wine while watching elephants bathe under the stars. It’s a dreamlike contrast to the dry north—and a beautiful continuation of your best of Kenya safari journey.

Lake Naivasha: Rift Valley Tranquility

The final leg of the tour descends into the heart of the Great Rift Valley, where Lake Naivasha glistens at the foot of the dormant volcano Mt Lognonot. Known for its rich birdlife and dramatic scenery, this area offers a refreshing change of pace—tranquil, yet filled with hidden wonders.

At the elegant Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort, you’ll stay in a luxurious lakeside suite surrounded by acacia trees and wandering giraffes. Here, you’ll enjoy a peaceful morning coffee with the sounds of fish eagles overhead and spend your days indulging in the unique adventures that make this location such a standout in the best of Kenya safari circuit.

Highlights include a sunset cruise with drinks, where you’ll drift past hippos and flocks of pelicans, and a bicycle safari through Hell’s Gate National Park, riding between towering cliffs and steaming geothermal vents among herds of zebras and antelope. Prefer to take it easy? A game drive option offers the same wildlife and landscapes with the comfort of a vehicle.
