Want to see three completely different sides of Kenya in one weekend? This 3-day adventure takes you from cool mountain forests to tranquil lakeshores and dramatic volcanic gorges. You’ll spot elephants and buffaloes on game drives in Aberdare National Park, boat among hippos on Lake Naivasha, and cycle past zebras in Hell’s Gate - one of the few Kenyan parks where you can safely bike with wildlife.
This isn’t your typical safari. It’s a journey designed around the principles of Kenya eco tourism, offering three days of diverse ecosystems, authentic camping, and a genuine connection to some of the country's most protected natural landscapes.
Your journey begins with a scenic drive through tea and coffee plantations toward the Aberdare Range. We enter through the Ark Gate for an immediate game drive through dense forests and open moorlands.
The Aberdares sit at over 3,000 meters, creating a cool mountain climate that feels worlds away from the typical savanna. Keep your eyes peeled for elephants, buffaloes, and the magnificent grey crowned crane. Because Kenya eco tourism focuses on preserving rare habitats, this park is a vital sanctuary for species you won’t easily find elsewhere, like the elusive Bongo antelope or the Black Serval.
After the game drive, take a nature walk to Chania Falls for a peaceful picnic lunch surrounded by lush vegetation and cascading water. In the afternoon, head to Reedbuck Campsite, watching for the elegant mountain reedbuck and various antelope species along the way. At camp, enjoy freshly cooked dinner as the sun sets. Then comes the magic - the highland skies offer some of the clearest stargazing in Kenya. The Milky Way stretches overhead like a glowing river while owls call and hyraxes make their distinctive cries in the darkness.
After breakfast, we drive to Karuru Falls. At 273 meters, it's the tallest waterfall in the country and a true highlight of Kenya eco tourism for those who love raw, thundering nature. We'll also explore the mystical Queen’s Cave, a site wrapped in local legends and Mau Mau history.

Now the landscape completely changes as you descend from the highlands into the Rift Valley. Lake Naivasha sits at 1,884 meters - over 1,000 meters lower than where you started the day, and the temperature shift is dramatic. In the afternoon, take a relaxing boat ride on the lake. Here’s something interesting: Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake despite being in the Rift Valley where most lakes are alkaline. This makes it a haven for incredible birdlife - over 400 species have been recorded here. You’ll spot hippos lounging in the water (they can hold their breath for up to 5 minutes!), fish eagles, pelicans, and cormorants.
The boat takes you around Crescent Island, where wildlife grazes right at the water’s edge. Stay overnight at Fisherman’s Camp on the lakeshore, where hippos often visit the shores at night. The electric fence keeps things safe while you enjoy the sounds of these massive animals - adult hippos can weigh up to 4,000 kg - grunting and splashing nearby. For those who want a bit more comfort after camping in the Aberdares, cottage accommodation is available as an Add-on.

After lakeside breakfast, head to Hell’s Gate National Park - a completely different world. Named by explorers in the 1880s for its dramatic red cliffs and geothermal activity, this park’s landscape was actually the inspiration for The Lion King.
What makes Hell’s Gate special is that you explore it by bicycle - one of only two Kenyan parks where you can safely cycle among wildlife. Pedal along trails where zebras graze, giraffes browse on acacia trees, and various antelopes roam freely. This low-impact way of seeing wildlife is a cornerstone of Kenya eco tourism, allowing for a quieter and more intimate connection with nature.
The highlight is hiking into Ol Njorowa Gorge. Leave your bikes and descend into this narrow canyon formed millions of years ago by volcanic activity. The gorge walls tower 25 meters above you as you squeeze through narrow passages and climb over rocks. It’s like stepping into another world - geothermal steam vents release hot steam from deep underground, and the rock formations tell the story of ancient eruptions. For adventure seekers, rock climbing at Fisher’s Tower is available as an add-on - the volcanic rock here creates perfect natural climbing routes. After a local Kenyan lunch, head back to Nairobi with incredible memories of three completely different ecosystems in just three days.
Most safaris stick to one environment, but the true spirit of Kenya eco tourism is found in diversity. In just three days, you’ll experience:
The activities are just as diverse - game drives, waterfall walks, cave exploration, boat rides, bicycle safari, and gorge trekking. Book now and discover why Kenya’s ecosystems are among the most diverse in Africa.
