    The Tour

    About This Tour

You wake in the dry north watching Grevy’s zebras cross a riverbed. By evening you are wrapped in mist inside a mountain forest where elephants gather at a floodlit waterhole. Two days later you are cycling past zebras with a volcano on the horizon. That is the Kenya safari we built.

This is a 6-day loop through three of Kenya’s most different wild places. No long drives across the same landscape. Each stop feels like a new country.

    Samburu: The North’s Rare Wildlife

Samburu National Reserve is nothing like the typical safari image. The land is dry and red. Acacia trees twist against ochre cliffs. The Ewaso Nyiro River cuts through it all drawing wildlife in from miles around.

This is where you find the Samburu Special Five. The reticulated giraffe with its puzzle-piece coat. The Grevy’s zebra with its thin stripes and round ears. The gerenuk standing on hind legs to reach high branches. The Beisa oryx with its straight horns cutting the horizon. Nowhere else in Kenya has them all together.

Across the river lies Buffalo Springs National Reserve. Fewer cars. More quiet. Natural springs bubble up in the dry landscape drawing elephants down to bathe. Lion prides rest under doum palms while herds of oryx graze in the open.

    Aberdares: The Forest Highlands

From the dry north the road climbs into the Aberdare National Park. Everything changes. The air cools. Bamboo forests close in. Waterfalls appear around every bend.

The Ark Lodge sits above a floodlit waterhole. You watch from your balcony as elephants, buffalo and the occasional leopard come and go through the night. There are guided walks to Karuru Falls where the water drops 300 metres through the forest. It is a different kind of Kenya safari. Slower. Stranger. Quiet in a way the open plains never are.

    Lake Naivasha: Rift Valley Light

The last stop is Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley. The light changes again. The lake glitters at the foot of Mount Longonot. Fish eagles call over the water.

We take you out on a sunset boat ride past hippos and pelicans. Next morning you ride a bicycle through Hell’s Gate National Park between red cliffs and steam vents with zebras running alongside. It is the most fun you will have on any Kenya safari. If cycling is not your thing we run the same route as a game drive.
